1.Do I need a Social Security number to enroll in SAVES?

   No

2.What’s the school schedule?

 Schedule varies according to adult centers. Check with your nearest adult center or you can contact any of the SAVES staff listed in our Contacts List.

3.Do I have to buy textbooks?

   No

4. I am not employed.  Can SAVES help me find a job?

    Eligible unemployed clients are referred to Employment Service Providers.

5. What provisions are made for students with children?

    Free childcare referral is available.

6. I do not have any transportation   

     You may qualify to receive free bus passes

7. How many levels of English classes are offered?

    Most adult centers offer basic, intermediate and advanced English classes.

8.What identification do I need to show when I register for SAVES?

   You will need to show your I-94, or parole card, or a letter stating: ASYLUM GRANTED, or Residency/Work permit cards that have SAVES eligibility codes  (NOTE: Neither a residency card, nor a work permit authorization, are necessary for SAVES participation).

9. What can SAVES help me with?

Free tuition and textbooks for English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Adult Basic Education (ABE), GED and vocational classes offered through Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) adult education centers.

10. For how long can I receive assistance from the SAVES  program?

   This changes periodically. At present, you can take a year’s time of vocational training and unlimited time of English classes.

11.  Do I have to take a test when I enroll?

  You will have to take a pretest which will assess your English language skills.
