Meet Our Staff

Our staff will be happy to help you with any questions you may have.

Edwina Hoffman  earned a doctorate and masters degrees from Florida International University. Her undergraduate degree was in Oriental and African history from Middlebury College (Vt).
Dr. Hoffman was recognized by Sunshine State TESOL in 2005 for her lifetime achievement on behalf of English language learners.

Georges Legerme has a Master's degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Nova Southeastern University .  He has been with Miami-Dade County Public Schools since 1983, teaching ESOL to adult and elementary students.  He is working now as an educational specialist for SAVES.

Marie Philogene teaches and works for the SAVES program at D.A. Dorsey and in the District Office. She has been in the school system for over 13 years. Marie has a Bachelor's degree in Communications and a Master's degree in Hospitality Management from Florida International University, and a certificate in school administration from St. Thomas University. Ms. Philogene also hosts a program on Radio Mega in Haitian Creole.

Carlos Baena has a Master's degree in TESOL, and he brings to his position extensive experience working with adult refugees and asylees in education.
Currently, Mr. Baena is an Educational Specialist with the SAVES Program.

Lawrence Ress comes with an impressive background that includes Elementary Education, Vocational Training, GED and Community Affairs. He speaks Spanish and has traveled extensively throughout Latin America and Europe . He is very proud of his ESOL Specialist Degree from the University of Miami .  Mr. Ress is an Educational Specialist for the SAVES Program.

David Del Terzo holds a Programmer I position and is responsible for data input and reporting.  He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from Florida International University and has been working in the school system for more than 10 years.

Sheria M. Goodman is the Accounting Specialist for the SAVES Program.

Magda R. Orta earned a Master’s of Science with a major in Educational Leadership from Barry University , and she holds a Bachelor’s of Music Education from the University of Miami .  She has over 30 years experience as an educator for the Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Magda has been hosting the SAVES radio program on Radio Mambí since 2001. 
Her background includes knowledge in the fields of public relations, marketing, media, special education programs, event coordinator, and public affairs.

Dr. Alex Borbolla earned a Doctorate from Havana University. He has a Master’s degree in TESOL from Nova Southeastern University and a Master’s in Spanish from the University of Miami.

After 32 years with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, he retired as an adult center principal. He serves as the Senior Resource Specialist for the SAVES Project. You may reach him at 305.548.3046.

Amanda Jones is the Senior Secretary for the SAVES Program. She has been working in the Miami-Dade County Public School system for over twelve years.  Ms. Jones enjoys working for a program that helps refugees and asylees who have endured tremendous hardships in the past.

Ms. Jemimah Donnis was born and raised in Miami .  She is fluent in English and Haitian Creole.  Jemimah enjoys assisting others to the best of her abilities.  She incorporates her excellent communication skills and her secretarial competencies on a daily basis at the SAVES office.
